Arranged Marriage

Marriage Season is going on...and i too have been hearing a lot of marriage talks...not mine..but of my friends etc. On one hand, there are people whose family have already started looking....and then there are people..already in relationships...and breaking off just because the family wont accept it.

I have already seen at least 4 of friends breaking off their 4 yr relationships because of this. And this made me ponder...why and what this fuss is all about?!!!
Oxford defines marriage as "The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife, and in some jurisdictions, between two persons of the same sex, usually entailing legal obligations of each person to the other."

Now lets leave the same sex part, and concentrate on the rest of the sentence. Keep it in mind.
Arranged marriag(AM’s for short)e is a marriage arranged by someone other than the couple getting wedded, curtailing or avoiding the process of dating before marriage. The match could be selected by parents, a matchmaking agent, matrimonial site etc etc. In many communities, priests or religious leaders as well as relatives or family friends play a major role in matchmaking.
Now let’s see the process of matchmaking.
Steps:
1. Girl/Boy sends picture
2. Boy/Girl sees the other picture
3. Boy/Girl selects the ones who they think are good looking (decisions are based on variety of factors…the image of self also matters)
4. Girl/Boy receives acceptance offers.
5. Girl/Boy chooses some of the offers.
6. Contact is made.
7. Meeting is scheduled
8. In the meeting, parents(sometimes the people themselves) inquire about the qualities and others attributes of each other in the meeting.
9. A decision is made, Marriage takes place and the couple live together for the entire lives.

Arranged Marriages aren’t exactly the same, but then it somehow revolves around the steps mentioned above. Just maybe it’s a bit modernised about how it goes about now.

Now, thinking over this process, I cant help but remember one very important stage of my college life. This stage was probably making my professional life begin on a smooth and healthier note.

Now, if anyone reading this is or was an engineer, you would know what the final yr beckons. Placements. Now the placement process is one in which you get placed in a industry/company. Here’s how the general process goes about:
Steps:
1. Company sends in resume ( its details, package, profile)
2. Girl/Boy selects company to appear and sends resume (in some cases, make the initial cut off criteria)
3. Company reads the resume (accepts people above cut off criteria)
4. Company selects the ones who they think are good enough (decisions are based on variety of factors initially… like aptitude tests, GD)
5. Contact is made, meeting is scheduled (Personal Interview)
6. In the meeting, company(sometimes the interviewee themselves) inquire about the qualities and others attributes of the person they are meeting.
7. A decision is made, Appointment takes place and the employee is employed in the company for a minimum of some bond period (Bond period is the one in which a employee is not allowed to leave the company without paying adequate compensation)

All placements aren’t exactly the same, but then it somehow revolves around the steps mentioned above.

Strikingly similar situations aint it???? Marriage just makes you go into a bond for life. All the decisions are based on your RESUME…the prime deciding factor.
All I could say was …. W-T-F !!!!
In an AM, it doesn’t matter, in most cases, how the person is, how he treats you, how nice he is, is he/she worth existing together… how he/she behaves, his smartness…etc etc etc… All that matters is “How good looking he/she is”, “How much is he earning”! “Is the caste/religion/language meeting the requirements”

In other words, its just a compromise. Compromise with your life. You just live on because it’s another responsibility on you head now, and responsibility you would have rather taken with someone else. Compromise, Sacrifice and Concede.

It just the same...u accept an offer from a Non-dream(engineers would understand)company just because Yahoo or Microsoft (Super Dream) didnt find you GOOD enough for them. And with time and the responsibility given to you, you start doing ur JOB...

Just ask yourself that how can you marry somebody you don't know. Knowing somebody before marriage allows partners to have better respect and understanding for each other's needs and desires. This way they are better adjusted in the marriage when they finally take their wedding vows. But here, the need is money and desire is a good looking spouse you can show off to your friends and companions.

On a personal note now, I shun this type. A vow taken sometime earlier and reiterated every time this topic comes about…. I think I am strong enough to live my life without a spouse..i have been doing it for the past 23 yrs..why not another 23??
Its gonna hurt at first,,but then I’ll get used to it as well….M Never ever gonna go for arranged marriage….if love is something I’ll ever find, I’ll consider myself blessed. Else, hard luck mate :)

To all the readers, ur comments are welcome. But plz dont come about saying this is how the society works n all...I dont fear the society..Doing what my heart feels is right is more important than doing what others feel is correct!

First Week in Infy

Holla Mysore.....a Mumbaikar is here...!!
But sadly, its only "Anda kunda thanda paani " here :(
Anyways, first day was the worst experience...arrived in bangalore at around 9:30 pm and took a bus for mysore: 2.5 hours journey... arrived at mysore city at around 12-12:30.
Banjar jagah hain ye..... total GAON... Anyways...reached infy campus at 10 next morning,
got only my laptop and docs to the campus.....got into a qualis carrying us to the reception.
And then in my qualis, it was another invasion of south india....all speaking broken english with no knowledge of hindi....and having ringtones "of the south indian songs"....man was the last straw!!!

Campus was like 1000 acres.....soooooo BIIIIGGGG...so spacious...having everything...almost a mini city!!!!! I was given a 6 floor building with no lift....hahha....man, "7 maale ki building baandh dete hain...lift ki jagah nahi banayi" Then entire day was spent by feeling homesick and wanting to hear some hindi...or even marathi... It wasnt up until evening when i really did meet some people around here...Hindi speaking people...my old frnds....new ones...especially mumbai ones....man that felt good!!!!
I was made to fear infy training at this outset....and also of its intensity as well. :)
Next day all the boring seminar's started....still going on... Values Values and more Values....Achar daal values ka.... >:-|
ILI session aka personality and comm skill development...for a week
Saturday's working...man infy is testing us that join us or leave...we aint caring... :(

On the downside to this campus....food is bad!!! But to the mumbaikar's perspective only...
Chicken is good...i m actually spending more than others...subah shaam sirf chicken ho raha hain.... Mysore weather is like the sand..compared to mumbai which is like water...mysore is hot...and i mean reallllly hot in the day and cools down signifcantly at night...
they provide cycles...which are usually not available since lazy guys like me leave late...
Moreover the boys hostel is a GOOD 2 KM away from the work building...
and we usually walk.... :O

Out of 480 odd ppl in our batch, arnd 20 from west, 100 odd from north and east, around 200-250 are from south...Invasion of South India... (no offence to any body in particular)get really irritating sometimes...anyways...its the culture...cant help it!!
Anyways... No other place like Mumbai... no comparison also... :(
Mumbai guys...have fun and try not to leave !!!!!! ^_^

More to come !!! only thing keeping me alive is laptop and data card... comments are welcome..
cuz m longing for some interaction here... :)

WHAT A START TO THE NEW YEAR...?

30th december.................4:30 PM.....

thought i should watch some movie.....then watched CHAK DE for 2 hrs and 21 min...
good movie though i thought it could have been better...newayz...after that my mom just went out to give the watchman instructions on when to washing the car....then she comes running up and with a heavy breathed voice speaks" THE CAR'S GONE"....

All the world becomes so small infront of my eyes ...i run down the stairs...(no time to wait for the lift).....the cars actually gone...some members (Read: intelligent and omniscient members)
try to give us all kinds of advice that is mostly common sense made not so common....

The watchmen are called.....after some talking here and there...we go to the police station..
Contradictory to popular opinion....the policemen there were the most polite and helpful....in more ways than 1 (not mentioning it here....since blogs are being tracked nowadays)

Then a constable is sent with us and the watchmen are called in for interrogation.....
then the NIGHT after the STORM....i couldn't sleep...atleast not until 4'0'clock...
in the morning we get the SURPRISE OF THE YEAR....NEW YEAR .....

The car is back!!!!

Watchman comes and tells us the car is back...we run down and see that the neighbourhood mechanic has brought it back......VERY surprising isn't it!!!
Actually here's the explanation.... the mechanic was given the keys of another car of the same model, make and almost the same colour in our premises...for servicing. Mr. mechanic then without actually paying attention to the number...tries the keys in our car.....the keys FIT... even the ignition.

so we go back to the station to clear out evrything...but the the popular opinion was not so contradictory in the morning...the police is now flumoxxed as to how can a case be solved and given up so easily.....??
They make us wait for the long time...the night constable explains the case...the incharge their is about to leave us...then the day constable says something in his ear.....i catch only the words necessary enough to understand whats going on...."chaipani ghya"....

We are then made to wait for 1 hour or so....evrything is wriiten down and our papers and the car is retained...reason said to us was..."Complaint was at night.....so collect it from the night person only...". We leave...understanding its gonna cost us something....Others all the watchmen, the mechanics are left off...

When we return, our intelligent society mates ask and on knowing that the police retained our car....give us advice most people do to show their "intelligence"...hmmpf...

They say we should have talked strenly with the policemen, questioned them for retaining the car....What do they know....???? I can understand since one was a non-maharastrain lady....but the other person being a maharastrain still gives us such folly advice....

Then we go at night to the station...jus to see that the morning ppl hav still not left...fearing these guys...(crooked as they were for their chaipani...)...we left...returned after 1 1/2 hrs....to our delight the old guys were present...We explained the situation...then the person who took our case...was still not there...they call him up...and reluctantly (zaaoon deyoo ka?? zaaoon deyoo naa.....barah...) since it was too late to have made us wait and actually chalk out something from us..and even they were busy bcoz of the 31st night activites
..finally let us off....my mom says we should give them some "meethai" ...we do...SAY our thank yousand happy new years..... and FINALLY REACH HOME AFTER 2 DAYS OF FRANTIC RESTLESSNESS..UTTER CHAOS and DISORDER...and finally we get SOME PEACE OF MIND......I sit down to watch some tv...the days events reminiscient in my mind...await..HEROES on STAR WORLD...

SPCE gettin worse!

My 2nd post...or perhaps my insipiration to create this blog....since i had to vent out my feelings somewhr....BE project Fiasco!!!

IT HoDs are changing by the minute....whr evrybody gets a chance to be one..(god forbiod if dukkar becomes one.....oooh...i cant evn think abt it...)...and once u r the HoD....u show ur power!!.... Power...for which we know 2 great proverbs....
"With great power comes great responsibility"
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

Now which is applicable to us ....its not hard to guess....for example..
'venting anger on the teachers 4 not conducting Library lecture....herself making the timetable and giving the teachers practicals at the same time....and then reprimanding them 4 not conducting LIB lecture...waah bhai!!!' by now u get the idea who am i talking about!!

but there's something i am happy about.... her delusion is now cleared....Both the HoDs are hardly being approached by the students to be their project guide.....they may have been thinking they are popular with the students...but they get the picture now...!
And wat ingenious ideas they come up with!!!!!! and explanations too!!
Friday Project day is cancelled and each group gets a free time once in a week during practical time...bcoz they think if project group students are seperated from their groups...then each one will work on his respective free practical time and the project work will take place throughout the week...waah....like in a group of 4...only 1 person will have the perseverance to work alone...ha ha..evrything is at their discretion...good for them...!!
Our batch has suffered a lot and will too...only thing ppl like me can do is write stupid blogs like this!!

It's my first post!!!

Well, since its my first post.....i'll keep it short.....
jus ventured into blogging....dunno know how long will I be into it...but for the time being...i'll keep posting ...andd what...?
well abt anything i feel like but cant discuss with, any thoughts and ofcourse...for passing time...!
